How Much Does It Cost to Become a Barber in Manitoba in 2026?

Last updated: May 13, 2026

Thinking about becoming a barber? With the growth of men’s grooming, modern barbering has become one of the most exciting paths in the beauty industry. From fades and clipper cuts to beard work and styling, barbering offers a creative and hands-on career with endless opportunities.

If you’re ready to explore the barbering industry but still have questions, here’s what you should know.

HOW DO I START?

Barbering is a specialty within the hairstyling trade, which means the first step to becoming a barber is completing a professional Hairstyling Diploma program. At Aveda Institute Winnipeg, you’ll complete our 10-month Hairstyling Diploma program where you’ll learn barbering fundamentals, clipper cutting and fades, haircutting, styling, colour, textured hair, guest experience, and more — all while training in a real salon environment to build the skills, confidence, and professionalism needed to work in barbershops after graduation.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

Paying for school is simpler than you think! Our team is here to guide you through the process step by step so you can focus on starting your career—not worrying about how to pay for it.

Over 80% of our students choose Manitoba Student Aid (MSA) because it’s an affordable, accessible way to invest in your education. Many students qualify for 100% funding or more! We’re here to help, making the process simple and stress-free — even if it’s your first time applying.

WHEN CAN I START WORKING?

You can start your apprenticeship in a barbershop as soon as you start school! Working under a licensed barber, you’ll develop your specialty and refine your skills, speed and confidence.

Our graduates have worked at every major barbershop in the city, and our school hosts events like Industry Day to connect you with potential employers.

Once you complete your 2 years (2200 hours) of apprenticeship, you can take your Red Seal exam—the final step to becoming fully licensed across Canada. This national certification recognizes you as a skilled professional and opens the door to greater opportunities, like owning your own barbershop!
