What to Expect on Your First Day of Hair School

You’ve enrolled in the program and you have your first day outfit all picked out, but what should you expect? Are you nervous, excited, or maybe a bit of both? The first day of school can be overwhelming, but we’re here to make your first step into your hairstyling career an easy one. Here’s what you can expect on your first day at the Aveda Institute Winnipeg:

MEETING YOUR CLASS AND EDUCATORS

First thing, of course, is meeting the people you’ll be spending your time with! Your educators are your teachers — they’re industry professionals that will teach and support you throughout your time at the Institute. You’ll also meet the rest of your classmates! Unlike high school, you’ll move through our program with the same class from beginning to end. You’ll really get to know each other, and probably meet some new lifelong friends!

RECEIVING YOUR STUDENT KIT

This is also when you’ll be receiving your student kit. Your kit includes the professional tools you’ll be learning with while you’re in school, and can carry with you into your career after graduation. You’ll also receive a full-sized iPad to assist you with theory and assignments — also yours to keep!

HAVING FUN DURING WELLNESS

At the Aveda Institute, we often start our days with a “Wellness” activity. Wellness is a fun activity similar to an ice breaker, where you and your classmates have an opportunity to get to know more about each other,  and set a positive tone for the rest of your day.

EXPLORING THE AREA

We’re located in the historic Exchange District of Winnipeg, full of culture, great food, and local shops. To get you acquainted with the area, your entire class gets to explore the Exchange with a scavenger hunt! Not only will you become familiar with the area, you’ll also get a chance to become more familiar with each other in a fun and different environment.
